The Citizen Police Academy (CPA) is a program that is designed to give people who reside or work in the City of Pembroke Pines a working knowledge of the Pembroke Pines Police Department. It’s conducted in a classroom and “out-in-the-field” setting by officers and specialized personnel from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines to give participants an unique “hands-on” learning experience.
As part of the class, participants are given a thorough overview of law enforcement, as well as, an introduction to specialized units, such as the Crime Scene Unit, patrol operations, the detective bureau, dispatch and community policing. As a student of the Academy, you will have the opportunity to participate in role playing and scenarios; watch a K-9 demonstration; go to the gun range; and use the simulation training facility. Students will also have the option, on a voluntary basis, to go on a “ride along” with a police officer.
The Citizen Police Academy (CPA) is a 15-week program, which is offered twice a year, in the Spring and in the Fall. Each session consists of weekly classes that are held on Thursday evenings, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Pembroke Pines Police Department located at 9500 Pines Blvd. The Citizens Police Academy has a nominal cost and in return, you will receive a CPA shirt and course DVD. Refreshments are also provided at each class.
