The Pembroke Pines Citizens Police Academy (CPA) started on April 20, 1995, with the first class of 23 members. At the time, the current Police Chief, Martin Rahinsky, brought the program to Pembroke Pines and Sgt. Mike Arnett was assigned to begin compiling the classes, enlisting instructors and bringing the program to life. The initial academy program was 10 weeks long and after a few classes had graduated, the program was re-evaluated several times, adding more classes and extending from 10 weeks to 12, and then to finally 15 weeks long, as it runs now.
Now 21 years later, we have been holding two classes each year and recently completed our 43rd class. We have graduated almost 950 residents and business leaders of our community and surrounding areas.
The Alumni Association was started after the first class graduated back in June of 1995 by members of the first class who wanted to do more for their community and the police department.
